Does James Bond Dance? – Robot’s Root 160529

Image
So much Bond speculation over the past week! First, it was that Gillian Anderson’s mockup Bond poster was being taken seriously. Then it was that Tom Hiddleston was in serious talks to take over (and boy, can he dance)… and then it was that outlier Jamie Bell was also in talks. Lastly, today, it’s that Night Manager director Susanne Bier might join Hiddleston on the next film, replacing Sam Mendes. All indications are that Night Manager is excellent and it’s certainly easy to imagine Hiddleston in the role (as a suave, intelligent, less physical Bond) though Bell has charisma and is certainly fit (the ears, tho) but maybe the most interesting point would be a female Bond director for the first time ever… on a franchise well known for either exploiting women or overcompensating half-heartedly about exploiting women.

Hail Who are We Kidding – 27 May 2016

Image
Marvel’s getting flack for this obviously untrue stunt reveal that Cap has always been a HYDRA agent… I think it’s some sort of pushback on how DC hasn’t gotten a break over the last few years in terms of comics storytelling reputation (despite several good writers on several good books) but anyway.

Image
PS: No, I don’t think Cap is a HYDRA agent. I think he’s being Xavier/Skulled or something. However, I’m four years behind on my reading, so.

Finally, I know I’m something of an apologist about SNL. I hang on for the 12:55am sketch (PST)… where the real lunacy might happen. This sketch, The Potato Chip, I remember just being floored by. Ragnarockanrolla – 20 May 2016

Well, looks like Jeff Goldblum wasn’t being courted for the Spider-Man villain after all. Apparently he’s been cast as the Grandmaster, one of Marvel’s space-LSD-era’s wierder demigods, and I’ll hazard a guess, the one responsible for a Planet Hulk type situation in Thor: Ragnarok.

DAMAGED They All Said – 160519

Image
Rafael Albuquerque posted this variant cover to his IG account, and people are speculating DC is transitioning some of Leto’s Joker look into the comics, as they did with Gadot’s WW. I note the decided lack of tattoos. I have no issue with the movies influencing the comics. If it works as a story, that’s all that matters. And I’m bored to tears with all of the traditional comic versions of Joker anyway. Side note: in the comments, people were whining about how every few years Joker seems to be a different character: robber, terrorist, serial killer, super villain… based on the conceits of the creative teams using him. Grant Morrison floated a great theory: that Joker has sequential MPD. They are all the same guy, reinventing himself.
