Bye Felicia – Robots Root 12 September 2018

All signs point to Cavill abandoning the cape… or the cape abandoning Cavill… truth be told, it would make it a lot easier for the WB to reboot both Superman AND Batman together (while somehow keeping the rest of the JL I guess)… however, I’m somewhat in the minority as one who likes him in the role… I liked him RELOADING in Fallout better, though.

Meanwhile, in space:

  • Thanks to Robert Zemeckis, and the apparently insatiable teen appetite for those CW shows, you can expect a ton of sexy pirate costumes at upcoming comic conventions…
  • Rumor has it Guy Ritchie may be developing a Captain Britain film for Marvel. I suppose that works. I can see him doing Excalibur as well. It’s on the nose, but honestly keeping him working in the London street-level environment would be the most interesting for a Marvel property.
  • It’s potentially optimistic news that New Mutants reshoots *supposedly* are to push the horror we were promised.
  • This whole thing with Mendho just Mendho-ing about while supposedly talking about ‘Skrullin’ felt very Mendho. If you follow.
  • SOLO SPOILER: What struck me most about these Maul pics was that the robotic legs appear to have been practical, when I assumed it was all CGI. That’s cool.

  • Some sweet callbacks here! I can’t wait to rewatch Infinity War and suck up all the cool tangential crumbs…
  • Lovecraftian gaming is ramping up: The Sinking City over here, Cthulhu over there…
  • While this thing here is about Jude Law being Mar-Vell, which we assumed, I’m just super into seeing Ronan as a Kree Enforcer prior to the later film.
  • Deadly Class, Deadly Class, Deadly Class!
  • Rebecca Ferguson from Mission Impossitole just joined Villaneuve’s Dune project. I can see it!
  • I know its just a teaser, but I’d take the year one black suit on DD any day…
  • If you like stunt choreography, check this out. Great perspective from the female side of things.
  • I appreciate the production’s honesty that the Shazam suit is still in evolutionary development. Especially today, where so much of the detail is tweaked in post, it’s quite reasonable. But it might surprise some… I just hope they edit down the Jersey Shore hair…
  • Lana ‘Jubilee’ Condor is joining an interesting looking film project… I wish there was more of her in X-Men…
  • So many Han Solo deleted scenes!

Have You Ever Danced With Shermin-Williams in the Pale Moonlight? – Robot’s Root 11 Feb 2018

I don’t know what to make of this Todd Phillips 80s Pre-Joker movie with Jaoquin Phoenix. I mean, I like when they experiment. But DCEU has such a low track record as far as experimenting with VISION. On the other hand, a film about that whole Vision Family in Suburbia book would be legendary. The image above, though, from a set of fan arts, really appeals to me… or peels… I love the flaking paint situation happening.

Meanwhile, these things:

  • When your director backs out of He-Man because they’re too busy with… Krypton… then you KNOW its serious.
  • Even deleted scenes are hilarious. Ragnarok still owns me.
  • This deleted scene from JL is actually pretty good, from a world-building standpoint. It shows a newly revived Kal-El wandering the halls of his old ship, and as he approaches, it automatically offers various resources for him, including the all-black supersuit and the Kryptonian battle armor… internally consistent-ish with Man of Steel. I appreciate that.
  • The winner of that huge 10-year Class Photo MCU situation is clearly Benedict Wong, because player brought a pocket watch on a vest chain.
  • More stuff showing consistency with the McQuarrie front end on the Falcon. Even if it is all part of the longer front end ‘docking module’ which works fine for me, I just don’t know what to make of images like this, below, where it’s longer but there’s a slot. Maybe the central spine is also a modular element than can be removed, separately from the longer vice clamp bits. Maybe, though, these other images are just earlier in the production design… or possibly fake. These days, who knows. This example below, which has been around for months, is the most mystifying. It looks too consistent to be a total fake, so I wonder if it was just earlier in the production. Because it deviates too much from what we’ve seen now. Wrong dish antenna, different front end, no blue and white paint… it does have the turret.

That’s enough for today. Back to rolling housepaint over my face to appear edgy.

Hell Hathaway No Fury – 22 Dec 2016

Image
As people are rabidly circling the concept of Megan Fox as Poison Ivy (which doesn’t thrill me) this article makes a good case for bringing Anne Hathaway back and introducing her into the DCCU. Normally I’d say keep the Nolanverse separate and leave it all alone. But frankly: she was great, she WANTS to return to the character, and she could offset some of the vampiness off Harley and the presumed oversexualization of Ivy. It’s a thought.

Meanwhile, on earth:

– This early material for the unfortunately titled Lost City of Z is a welcome respite from most of what has come out in 2016: straight up old school retro period adventure movie. I’m in!
link!

– This life-sized articulated and self-automated Iron Man armor fits the bill… or so you’d thing… HOWEVER they are careful to note it is apparently not wearable. And why the… I mean… you went THIS far…link!

– But all hope is not lost: here’s a mech proof of concept actually doing what we always wanted them to do… right before the earth dies.link!

– Denis Villaneuve may actually get his dream project: DUNE. link!

– From yesterday, I thought i’d offer up the Twitter link to the Man That Is You Know Definitely Not a Wolf: link!

– Random news of the day: R. L. Stine (Goosebumps) is apparently writing a Man-Thing series for Marvel. I mean… link!

– NASA Gifs ftw link!

And with that, I may or may not leave you with the last post before the Xmas holiday, during which I may or may not change my mind and post again.

Also, listeners of the Robot-Kraken podcast: fear not! We have something cooking to finish off the year and some exciting stuff planned starting in January. We’ve been burdened by realLife commitments over the last month but we plan on getting back on schedule after the new year.
