Get this Man a Facet Tool – Robots Root 11 May 2018

Disappointed at the lack of attribution, but this is my current desktop, and I used it in our latest Robot-Kraken Podcast. So good.

  • Looking forward to American Animals, as one does.
  • I’m 100% on board with whatever regarding Birds of Prey, honestly.
  • Thinking about the future of the franchise, what ‘big event’ could replace Avengers movies? I think this is a maguffin, because the narrative had bled into other films already, such as the last two most amazing Captain America films. I was thinking about this last night. Maybe ‘Secret Wars’? Not the stitched-together battle planet, but rather the idea that the heroes and villains would be shunted into an environment forcing them to organize and fight their way out. I can see this fusing concepts from the original Secret Wars, Champions, and frankly, a good dose of what we got from Thunderbolts and Exiles: versions of characters pulled from the multiverse. Makes sense to this guy!
  • This is HIGH TREASON.
  • Donald Glover got wonderfully weird on SNL. But this novelization of the backstory of Lando is even weirder.
  • Captain Marvel already has a very intriguing cast… but they just added Annette Bening, and I’m even more intrigued.
  • Look: I’m horrified by the project, but I LOOOOVE her honesty. Legit.
  • Ron Howard + Arrested Development + Star Wars. Gold! Marketing at its best.
  • Listen, I have too much stuff, and I’m trying to get less stuff. But I’m really having trouble resisting this.
  • TAKE MY MONEY (that I don’t have)
  • I haven’t finished Clone Wars and haven’t started Rebels (kids too young) but this is very interesting to me, stylistically.
  • Everything about this. EVERYTHING. Thanks to C Ferrren for finding it…
  • Jon Favreau’s new SW series will take place during the first years of peace in the New Republic. Interesting territory for the show, I think.
  • While I understand WHY Syfy is dropping the Expanse (bad deal they made) I will just say that this better get picked up by Netflix, fast.
  • Here’s that teaser for Predator that came out yesterday. Optimism abounds, more on Kris’ side than mine. But still, love the cast. Here’s a snap of the current Predator design, in all of it’s sizzlechest, tall headed glory.
  • All the behind the scenes business is done, and Rick and Morty will be back for… 70 EPISODES… FFS that’s good news.
  • 355 is an all-female spy thriller, which is 100% better news than whatever was happening the day before it was revealed to be happening. The cast.
  • LEGO car building factory awesomeness…

And with that, a reminder to listen to our latest episode of Robot-Kraken, and in general, you know, fear not and be just…

Not a Hard Time Invented That I Cannot Handle – Robots Root 12 May 2017

Guess who just got his new Heat Remastered Blu-Ray? THIS GUY. And that means… well, of course it means hunting for new sweet-as cover art. Thus!

Thus, Robot’s Root for 10 May 2017!

  • Oddly enough, while much of the viral promo material for Alien Covenant has been interesting, this was like some kid’s 10th grade CGI experiment. Unless you, you know, understood nothing about how Alien works, and reallllly needed a Neomorph’s eye view (in 360 POV) of the birthing process. Meanwhile, Scott is backing off on the 15 Alien films things

At the very least his compositions are on fire!

  • Andrew Cosby really gets me. He says the shooting script, backed by the director’s vision ultimately, for the new Hellboy is a dark line between horror and “comic book film” whatever that specifically means… all signs point to YASS. Except for Jeffrey Tambor. I mean surely Del Toro and Perlman are non-plussed, but Tambor fired a shot across the bow.
  • Kevin Fiege says Marvel and Fox share the Watchers, among other ‘races’ if not characters individually. Take from that what you will, depending on what movies you have seen recently… but what it might MIGHT mean, and I’d love it if this were so, is the back door into a Skrull Invasion in the MCU. WANT.
  • Apparently when Orcas feast on Great Whites, they carve out the liver and leave the carcass. Nightmare fuel on top of nightmare fuel.
  • The Gifted Trailer didn’t look much better than Heroes did, and the burdenĀ of Bryan Singer weighs heavy on it, especially after Fox pulled magic out of a curious hat with Legion on FX, but anyway, here’s a photo of Polaris getting shrinkwrapped in a prison jumper. I think that’s a Rule, isn’t it?
  • I just ordered the Rise of the Dungeon-Master graphic novel… I know the in’s and out’s of the creation of D&D (and the somewhat inflated mythos of Gygax) but I like supporting these sorts of semi-biographical comics. Plus depending on how it reads it might be fun for my kids later, once they’ve played and understand how real people design and build the games they play. At this point, My Little Pony Monopoly fell out of a rainbow glitter cloud.
  • What’s this? An ongoing Deadpool animated series by Donald Glover? That sounds JUST fine.
  • Also, a new Judge Dredd cartoon is in the works. If nothing else, click through for a glimpse at the promo poster. The graphics look detailed, though I don’t know if that translates to the show itself.
  • My favorite desktop screen source ever for today: interfaces in science fiction
  • Son of Zorn, we hardly knew ye. I guess that’s why it was cancelled. But I INTENDED to.
  • I didn’t watch the interview, so this may be contextually skewed or a flippant humorous response, but boy did Diane Lane fuel the MCU fans…but wait! That’s not what she meant! Or something! HA.
  • The Irishman was greenlit for $100M… with a legendary cast… for NETFLIX.

And with that, I leave you to resume your touching of alien snakes.

Less Chimichangas for Tim Miller – 24 October 2016

Image
This one I initially discounted as rumor, but apparently the fallout stems from, aside from a general power struggle, the fact that Tim Miller wanted to do a stylized sequel, and Reynolds wanted to stick with the 4th wall lunacy of the first film.

ITEM: This rad Lego nod to Rogue One is pretty layered in its coolness. It’s a great relief sculpture of K-2SO as it is, but then they framed it like an illustration and built Lego MARKERS. That’s nuts. I love it.

Image
And finally, I made another Lego mech… this time at the lego store in my neighborhood. You can rent time with their bins so I take my son there while my daughter is in ballet sometimes. Concepting/Search/Assembly time, about 35 minutes.

No Disintegrations – 12 August 2016

Image
So I’ve watched the new Rogie One trailer about 33 times since last night. I also had a brief chance to watch Mr. Sunday Movies’ video on the trailer, and there was a lot of good stuff there. My favorite thing out of all of it, though, was this scene, at the 5:40 mark, which I assume is from some SW Celebration material (as you can see the mocap in a couple of cuts) where K-2SO is handed a backpack, then dumps it. That’s an Imperial Enforcer droid, goddamiot!

ITEM: buzz begats buzz, and in a very short time I’ve seen scores of sites repeating a rumor that Donald Glover is desired as young Lando. It smells like fantasy casting to me. But it wouldn’t be the worst choice.

Its not Anal and Stuff Just Anal – 16 June 2016

Starwars: Battlefront Bespin Expansion Pack… as Lung squeeeeeed to me via email: AT-ATs on Bespin! I have this game. The pack is part of Season Pass, which I don’t have, but could have, if someone were to come over and stuff.

The new Spidey game preview is getting mixed reviews for the costume, but while I don’t personally need white in my red/blue Spidey gear, it’s a fine design in and of itself. In fact, if the white were black, it would be pretty organically aligned with the Civil War look. It even has those optics. Note the soles of the feet as well. Looks pretty good, mechanics-wise.

As pretty as she is, as good a cosplay it is in construction and design, here’s an example of where doing cosplay of a comic costume (or game costume in this case) highlights how awkward it looks in real life. The tenuous clipping of this dress thing just looks so awkward. Kind of like some of the attempts at Morrison era Emma Frost with the magic bustier.

JMS’ initially-solid and soon-hotmess series Rising Stars is apparently in development at MGM, because of course it is. I don’t even have a god image for this, because while I liked the story initially, I never liked the art or the designs….
