Wings and Things – Robots Root 23 October 2018

The more I watch the new Daredevil season (which has been SO GOOD) the more I think about the recent cancellations in the Marvel Netflix series, and how much I want a Daughters of the Dragon series next. Hopefully the above image isn’t too spoilery for those who are still watching Iron Fist, because no one is watching Iron Fist, and nothing matters. HA

This! News from the Quantum Whatever!

  • I’m into the new Netflix series Bodyguard. I love the lead, from the Game of Thrones days of course, and I find the subject matter compelling: the protecting of a politician whom you ideologically oppose, and then being sucked into the intelligence part of it. Hope its good! Coming to a Robot-Kraken pod near you soon enough…
  • This piece on disguise theory in the intelligence community was great. I thought a lot about this sort of thing when working on Finit-e… the ways in which dialog and mannerism can betray a spy.
  • Joining lil’ Predator, here comes lil’ Slimer. Unreal how well this works!
  • A study of high-angles used purposefully in cinematography.
  • This isn’t much of a spoiler, if you have ready any Iron Man comics over the years, but here’s a spoilery Pepper Potts pic from Avengers 4 that I like very much. ENDORSED!
  • While all I want to hear now is a Daughters of the Dragon (above) and a Heroes for Hire and a post-Netflix Jessica Jones and Defenders… rumor has it Nick Fury is getting a series…
  • This is just one of many photos to come out of the WB Elseworlds crossover featuring Green Arrow and Flash switching costumed identities. Everyone is worked up about John Wesley Shipp back in the furry Flash suit from the 90s, but I just cant get over how bad Stephen Amell looks in the Flash suit. It’s not just that it’s not a roided up muscle-built uniform like all the others… it’s design and plating is expressly awkward. He looks ridiculous, in a suit that appears designed to be so. Because that guy is RIPPED, otherwise.
  • Wonder Woman 2 is delayed until 2020… so many possible reasons.
  • Finally, Guillermo Del Toro finally gets to make his Pinocchio… at Netflix. Watch for those eye-palms!

Thats all for tonight. Brought to you by the 33% Nation of Iron Fist Katanas.

I Will Finish What You Started But Not Really – 3 Aug 2016

Saw this ad pop up in FB last night, and wished it were true. Not only because THESTARWARS but because that was a rad concept art for Vader, which we looked at last year. I’d LOVE to see Kylo Ren in that.

Meanwhile, in the land of (semi) reality…

ITEM: So shortly after that disastrous promo material came out showcasing Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman, actual set photos surfaced that showed he looks a lot more Supermanish than that surreal garbage fire of marketing intern failure suggested. Of course, there’s a lot of strangely inverse-sexist obsession over his ass, but he was a baseball player, so those glutes are quite typical. He looks better than I gave him credit, thankfully. I mean, thankfully, not thankfully, I don’t know, i don’t watch Supergirl… but I want all of these shows to succeed. In any way.

ITEM: I didn’t see Luc Besson’s movie, but the trailer did make me wonder.
According to the AFP, the court’s decision came with a statement that mentioned several undeniable connections. “The heroes of both ‘got into the prison by flying in a glider/space shuttle, had to confront inmates led by a chief with a strange right arm, found hugely important briefcases and met a former sidekick who then dies. And at the end (of both films the heroes) keep secret documents recovered during their mission.’”

ITEM: Colossal bummer: Adrianne Palicki has joined a Seth McFarlane space comedy. I was hoping that they would fold back into the cast after the SHIELD spin-off died. She was one of the best by a mile.

ITEM: Yes, Suicide Squad is getting ravaged by critics (though I’ve read some positive headlines from fan-oriented reviewers) and yes, the studio appears to have meddled very heavily in the wake of BVS backlash, to the point of pushing Ayers practically into Josh Trank level defensiveness, but I still intend to love it in just 5 days with my man Lung. Anyway, additionally, apparently my favorite DC villain FUCKING KING SHARK was supposed to be in the role Croc has now. Damn.

Speaking of, this review from Japan says the new film is all political talk and hand wringing and very little action. Given that Godzilla movies reflect the zeitgeist of cultural stress in Japan, I thought that was interesting. They went from nuke panic to counterculture/kid subversion to JDF criticism to isolationist tension to… bureaucratic sterility.
