Custom Decorative Tissue – Robots Root 30 Jan 2018

The Ultimate Unboxing Video, by goneintorapture.com. I still can’t stop staring at it. I love it so.

Meanwhile, in space:

  • While the execution is a little rough, i like the concept of Westworld viral being Delos interfaces and data screens that have been corrupted by bloody warnings and cries for help. Also, I’m holding my breath until Westworld S02, thanks. LOVE it.
  • This look at the new tech used to film the Valkyrie flashbacks in Ragnarok is fascinating, if you’re into that sort of thing, which I am. Otherwise, just look at the test footage, which feels like a microcosm glance at how fun that shoot must have been. All the behind the scenes stuff makes Waititi feel like a force of nature. A subversive one.
  • I loved this video. I love scale videos. Scale fascinates me. I appreciates that the scale reference module shifts in the video, from a human to a dump truck to the Statue of Liberty. I don’t quite understand the scale mismatch on the Xenomorph (2.1m) and Predator (2.2m) but otherwise very cool. I think my favorite was classic Mothra, complete with a 747 for scale.
  • The fanbase for Monty Python is dying out (more figuratively than literally, one hopes) but for those of us who remember the animations, here’s great archival of Gilliam walking an interviewer through the cut-animation process. Love it. As the so . of past-up artists in the days before digital, I enjoy reminders of the hands-on crafter approach to all of this prior to the advent of modern tools.
  • Jessica Jones S02, March 08, that’s all we need to know. No spoilers so far, which I appreciate, other than hints of Purple Man.
  • Here’s an amazing miniature VHS library. For science.
  • Hans Zimmer is apparently scoring Dark Phoenix. This is only important because Zimmer was supposedly retired from supers films. I just love his scores, regardless of the super side of it, but I do think he elevates material.
  • Indiana Jones 5 begins production in 2019, supposedly. Cue all the skeleton memes from Raiders.

That’s all for today. My today. Probably your last night. Time travel is weird.

Behold the MEHTROOPER – 26 October 2016

Image

Making Star Wars is floating the worst thing I’ve heard fromt he new SW film franchise yet. And I’ve heard very little from it all that I didn’t like when gleamed in spoiler/concept form. But this does not sound great. The drawing they put up of course negatively influences my perception but anyway…
“He has a matte black line that goes over half his mask on one side that sets him apart. The Executioner’s weapon is not unlike FN-2199’s at the handle but it has three spinning blades on the end that are said to be like something out of Phantasm (think of the crazy blades that come out of the spheres in those films). We think he has a shield but we haven’t been able to confirm if he actually uses it in the film or not.”
By the way, I’ve called this the MEHTROOPER, so if that takes off, you heard it here first.

ITEM: Very much non-news, but apparently the chestbuster is being referred to as a ‘neomorph’… I’m just posting this because I desperately cling to hope that this will be a cool film. Strike that, that it will be a film I will personally enjoy. Prometheus was a pile, but I still found reasons to enjoy it. Even when I didn’t.

Image
ITEM: The Punisher series cast has been fleshed out and it has been given a 2017 release date… which seems to conflict with Iron Fist, unless they are on opposing ends of the calendar year…

Image
ITEM: Aquaman and Mera will apparently have romantic tension and conflict and grow to be fond of each other, ie. the Romancing the Stone references he has been putting out there all week. Which is all very strange for the Royal Couple. I wonder if they are an arranged coupling or some other sort of system. Huh.

ITEM: As far as I’m concerned, this report that Lucas will not be involved in the script for Indy 5 is GOOD NEWS. Let’s be clear: I’m not a Lucas hater. But I’m not a fan of his input into the Indy films. Crystal. Skull.

ITEM: So of course Andrew Garfield is probably asked how he feels about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, not merely from an ego standpoint, but from the perspective of having Spidey 3 canceled out from under him. Regardless of however he actually feels about it, he’s taking the high road consistently, talking about other projects he’s subsequently gotten to do, and how he likes Holland for the role and wishes him well, etc. The thing is, I had problems with both of the Spidey reboot films, the latter more than the former, but I didn’t think Garfield was one of them. He was very watchable to me, and his dynamic with eventual lover and later ex-lover, Emma Stone, was convincing. So, I think it’s a win/win for him. He did fine in the role, but all signs were that Spidey 3 was going to be a disaster, so he got his opportunity to leave the project without leaving the project. Good for him.

ITEM: I love superhero listicles, when they aren’t written for mainstream people anyway. So, this one was dear to my heart, as I’m actually a fan of different people taking on the iconic uniforms of major heroes… when done properly. Most of this list is about hot messes that didn’t meet that criteria. But I’ve been a vocal fan of the Dick Grayson-Batman era, and of Bucky’s time as Cap.

This piece is entitled ‘Homage to Kim Jung Gi’ and I find it mesmerizing and disturbing.

Speaking of those same descriptors… wow Adam Hughes…

That is all. Go pumpkin spice thyself!
