Custom Decorative Tissue – Robots Root 30 Jan 2018

The Ultimate Unboxing Video, by goneintorapture.com. I still can’t stop staring at it. I love it so.

Meanwhile, in space:

  • While the execution is a little rough, i like the concept of Westworld viral being Delos interfaces and data screens that have been corrupted by bloody warnings and cries for help. Also, I’m holding my breath until Westworld S02, thanks. LOVE it.
  • This look at the new tech used to film the Valkyrie flashbacks in Ragnarok is fascinating, if you’re into that sort of thing, which I am. Otherwise, just look at the test footage, which feels like a microcosm glance at how fun that shoot must have been. All the behind the scenes stuff makes Waititi feel like a force of nature. A subversive one.
  • I loved this video. I love scale videos. Scale fascinates me. I appreciates that the scale reference module shifts in the video, from a human to a dump truck to the Statue of Liberty. I don’t quite understand the scale mismatch on the Xenomorph (2.1m) and Predator (2.2m) but otherwise very cool. I think my favorite was classic Mothra, complete with a 747 for scale.
  • The fanbase for Monty Python is dying out (more figuratively than literally, one hopes) but for those of us who remember the animations, here’s great archival of Gilliam walking an interviewer through the cut-animation process. Love it. As the so . of past-up artists in the days before digital, I enjoy reminders of the hands-on crafter approach to all of this prior to the advent of modern tools.
  • Jessica Jones S02, March 08, that’s all we need to know. No spoilers so far, which I appreciate, other than hints of Purple Man.
  • Here’s an amazing miniature VHS library. For science.
  • Hans Zimmer is apparently scoring Dark Phoenix. This is only important because Zimmer was supposedly retired from supers films. I just love his scores, regardless of the super side of it, but I do think he elevates material.
  • Indiana Jones 5 begins production in 2019, supposedly. Cue all the skeleton memes from Raiders.

That’s all for today. My today. Probably your last night. Time travel is weird.

Signaling My Intent to Smash Superman on the Right – 160621

Lots of news coming out of that weird press event where they flew all the journalists to London for a big Justice league ballyhoo.
– Justice League is supposedly to be ‘lighter’ and ‘more fun’
– Batman is a changed man, now optimistic and filled with hope after witnessing Superman’s sacrifice (uh-oh)
– It’s a collect-the-team story to battle a cataclysmic threat, including Steppenwolf, Luthor and of course, Darkseid.
– yet, producer Deborah Snyder claims there will only be one ‘Justice League’ movie, and had never planned for more than one. Yet yet, Snyder still claims another film is coming in 2019, and of course they planned two movies, they even announced Parts 1 and 2 earlier this year. Makes me wonder if they are playing coy, that this is Justice league, per se, and the ext one is Crisis or some such.
-Willem Dafoe is confirmed as Zulku, the aristocrat ruling Atlantis when Aquaman is out gallivanting around. I suspect he will betray Aquaman, because why ELSE would you cast Willem Dafoe?
-designers spoke about multiple batsuit tweaks, an interesting layering concept, and goggles to be used to simulate the white of the eyes thing (good idea):

“We loved the way in the comic books he’s always drawn with white flashes of eyes, so we thought of cool ways of doing it. We liked the way that they catch the light and give that classic image from the comic books. But he’ll also be piloting a new vehicle that he will need these goggles for.”

And despite ALL OF THAT, no one has thought to remove the reflector from the front corners or the jacked up Batmobile…

Supposedly, possibly, perhaps, might be, Mephisto as the big bad in Defenders on Netflix. I’d be down for some dimensional, supernatural dark and scary business to offset the inevitable lightness of a team-up set in the Netflix Marvel world…

Interesting, if not necessarily newly illuminating, interview with Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny about the future, and past, of X-Files. I’m of two minds… well, I guess they are too.
