Paupers Graves and Saber Waves – 14 Aug 2018

This Mondo poster is by Mark Aspinol. I’m not fond of how the ships are flying off of Kylo Ren’s shoulder, but there’s other compositional choices I really like: for example, the symbolic imagery of the figure placement (Kylo’s back, the fact that they are back to back as per the big scene in Snoke’s throne room) is rad, and it allows the glow of each lightsaber to shine on the opposing character, expressing their instability in the light/dark choice and the concept of balance. I loved the ships in Kylo Ren’s cloak’s negative space. I like that his lightsaber breaks the frame, which I feel expresses his surprise Act 2 choice… Anyway, fun with arts.

From the Shimmer:

  • By the end of S01, Hulu’s Runaways started to follow the beats of the comic, which is exciting. Of course, they haven’t dipped into the big gut-punch of the comic’s first series, but I don’t know yet if they will. That gives it some refreshing urgency. Anyway, S02 synopsis is out, and it looks like it’s diving into the titular on-the-run period we’ve been waiting for.
  • I don’t know what Tax Collector is going to be about (no one does) but I like Ayers overall, and I don’t mind Shia Lebouf the way others generally do. This was an intriguing image for me. I’m into it.
  • The other week I was saying I never really liked the Predator design, and of course there was pity and outrage. Anyway, not like I didn’t watch the movies. I’m a generational dudebro. But anyway, I remember even as a kid wondering how that mouth works. This article is pretty entertaining: no tongue? What the hell? How does it eat, let alone eat sushi
  • New Wes Anderson film is in production! What about? Don’t know, don’t care, take my money.
  • This is the first Venom image I’ve actually liked, in terms of the design. I like that he’s big, and the eyes and grin look better in profile (the eyes want to be farther apart like an animal to me, not straight ahead in the simian manner) and I like that the white sinewy veins are taking the place of the spider symbol. I said this on the podcast though: sometimes Brock’s head is in the head, and other times (like when Riot takes his head off) he’s down in the core of the torso like a mecha pilot. I wonder if this is just sloppiness, or f it’s by design, like he’s being shifted around in an egg sac to protect him. Late night, a couple of cocktails, and I was amused that it was like the same sort of mystery pilot jenga that puts Batman face down when he wants to shoot something in the Tumbler. HA. Meanwhile, Sony shoots itself in every foot it can find: now it is going for a PG-13 rating so they can better ‘integrate’ into the MCU if that ever becomes a possibility. GUH.
  • Ongoing highly speculative theories about what Disney will do in dismantling Fox are ongoing. Mostly about two key points: bringing X-Men and FF into the Marvel fold (let alone all those other properties ready to be strip-mined), and the status of the raunchy R-rated stuff. At least the ‘months of reshoots’ story seems to be hyperbole.
  • Josh Trank’s Fonzo: Al Capone by Tom Hardy who, when faced with perpetual criticism for his weird vocal choices, triple-downed and based Capone on Bugs Bunny with vocal fry. I’m actually into it. I hate his accent and slur as Eddie Brock, but I loved his Bane, loved his Peaky Blinders stuff, and I’m all for this. Capone DID have a weird nasally, highly regional accent. Hardy give precisely zero shits.
  • I don’t think anyone believes Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth really walked away from ST4… here’s hoping the producers do, so they get their money. I’m not saying any of these actors deserve or necessarily NEED huge salaries that have so outpaced the scale of their work, but I do think the studios are generally stupid about these negotiations. They went to stars of major franchise work and just when you expect the battle will be about them wanting even MORE money (especially Hemsworth)… the studio scales the budget back and asks for pay cuts in violation of their contracts. I get this is how it works, on both sides, fighting to modify contracts… but seriously.
  • On the Robot-Kraken Podcast we talked about how it felt like a missed opportunity to not let Goliath grow in the third act of Ant-Man and Wasp… apparently there was a scene planned… but it was a flashback. I agree, though, that would have been narratively redundant.
  • Shane Black is all for a Nice Guys sequel… I don’t feel it is necessary. It’s a perfect standalone film. But I’d also 100% endorse it if he kept the vibe. Their charisma was electric. I guess neon, given the time period. Lazy incandescent?

The Sun is Getting Low in the Sky Big Guy HEY WAIT – Robots Root 10 Jan 2018

Robot’s Root for 10 January 2018 – a roundup of stuff and things that may or may not be happening…

  • Adding Matt the Radar Tech into SW: Battlefront II is the best anything ever for today. I’m sold.
  • Apparently, if you want to avoid some legal difficulty, owning firearms with the Punisher logo on them is a bad idea. Especially pink ones… I guess. What about swords? What are the rules on Punisher logos?
  • Black Lightning isn’t a character I’m overly familiar with, but the fact that the live action show has been launched is a good thing, I think. Now, Thunder, his daughter, has a design element I really appreciate: a TRDL design style high collar! Ha! Stoked.
  • More trailer action for the new Black Widow film, Red Sparrow… WAIT. The poster, up top, I quite like, with the focus on the eye.
  • DeWanda Wise has joined the stellar cast of Captain Marvel. No word on the character, though wouldn’t it be interesting if there’s a Binary component to this script? Anyway, she’s rad as hell, so that’s a thing.
  • How is it that the Workaholics guys can just make whatever film they want at this point? It’s like a tighter band version of the Rogen gang.
  • Listen, I had high hopes for Robin Hood… but it’s starting to give me a Ladyhawke vibe. I mean, I had low hopes. But now I have lower hopes.
  • EVERYTHING about this film.
  • Gifted, which I have not started, has been granted a second season… and has lost the Singer factor, obviously. As has Legion.
  • Ever wanted to play a Bugbear? Now you can.
  • Love Game of Thrones and frostbite? GOOD NEWS.
  • Runaways has been renewed for S02 on Hulu, despite not having finished S01. I feel like it fell apart towards the back half, but it’s still serviceable. Not that this can be said for that abysmal looking Inhumans series. Guh.
  • Here’s a great interview with Mike Mignola on an array of subjects.
  • Collider claims Tim Miller is developing a Kitty Pryde film. I’m OK with it. Supposedly Drew Goddard’s X-Force film is scheduled to begin production soon as well.
  • Han Solo mayyyyyyy have just gone back in for 3 more weeks of reshoots… pretty late in the game. Ron Howard knows what he’s doing, so no panic. Other than the general anxiety about this film existing in the first place, I guess…
  • This one took me by surprise: Derrickson of Doctor Strange may be cooking a live-action adaptation of one of my favorite cyberpunk books of the 80s, Effinger’s ‘When Gravity Fails’, which is set in a futureshock Middle East. INTERESTING.
  • who doesn’t love fake amusement parks?
  • Mantic is preparing a Hellboy tabletop game! Stay tuned for Deeplydapper’s slavish review of said game in a year…
  • Finally, The Tick is returning, meaning I need to catch up in a hurry…

That’s it for today! Kris and I are both smashing atoms to get ready for Heroes and Villains Fanfest/ Walker Stalker Con this weekend in Portland. Come see us at tables 201-202 if you attend!

The Podcast That Forgot What it’s Like to Fear Death – Robots Root 6 Dec 2017

I WANT ALTERED CARBON IN MY FACE ASAP

Meanwhile…

Somewhere in space… it’s Robot’s Root:

  • Once again, Disney and Fox are “thisclose” to the deal… so, what do you think? Will Disney fold in the X-Men and FF properties as part of the likely multiverse thing coming after Infinity War?

  • Free Deadpool tattoos. What could go wrong? I’ll take free Negasonic tattoos though. And by free Negasonic tattoos, I mean applying tattoos onto what is already a peak hawt package. ZING!
  • I’d like all these Star Wars jackets a lot more if they didn’t have rebel logos or whatever on them. Less literal. Also, half this price.
  • Watch this GIF… do you hear it? I do.
  • It’s true: Nolan benefitted from a less compressed time of supers film production. He had a film in between each Batman film, and he told a story he cared about, largely or entirely without studio interference. However, he also benefitted from being Christopher Nolan in the first place. There’s a vision.
  • Interesting Stranger Things theory: is the demogorgon part of Eleven’s manifestation? I doubt it, given the events of S02… but still, good effort.
  • Here’s some cool concept art for Valkyrie from Andy park!
  • For Aeon-Flux fans, you can now watch the entire Liquid Television series streamed to your eyeballs like an errant fly.
  • As I’ve said on the pod, an AI vs AI vs AI direction in the Alien franchise sounds good to me. It just doesn’t make much more sense as a PREQUEL.
  • Batman almost had a shitty speeder bike in Justice League. Just look. Plus, somewhere, out there, there’s footage of the black Superman costume. I can’t wait until it surfaces.
  • Some potential Iron Fist S02 villain hints here in the casting notes… I mean, I could go either way, now that the showrunner has changed. Alice Eve was just cast as well…
  • NINJA TREE CLAWS
  • Margot Robbie is doing some sort of Harley Quinn something or other. I mean, who’s to say.
  • This Batman ninja business is the BUSINESS.
  • ADAM part 3 is no online. Hot damn.
  • Hellboy has a release date, and it’s too far away. Maybe, given what happened when they rushed JL, that’s OK.
  • Disney cast Mulan, and didn’t cock it up, even.
  • Historical nightmare fuel.
  • In an era of perpetual reboots, this plea from Alex Proyas against the Crow remake was pretty profound. Of course I’m of the age to have an emotional connection to that first film, too.
  • I haven’t watched any Black Mirror so far, but I might start

  • New images from next year’s Dark Phoenix surprise the hell out of me. My expectations were so low. This early look of Jean Grey transforming, even if its just stylized for these images… they’re really great. I like the cracking apart of her flesh. Not strictly consumed by fire, but also separating into component atoms. Wow. I also like the apparent change in concept for the Phoenix Force, and that the X-Men are popular, with Xavier being reckless in his deployment of the team beyond their capability, the hubris and overconfidence implied.
  • Finally, I’ve mentioned a few times that I’ve been watching, and enjoying, Runaways. We’ll be talking about that soon, but in the meantime, a good article about how the Hulu production makes good use of their established budget to put together FX for the deinonychus, Old Lace, featured in the show. It’s a good example of a production not overreaching beyond their budget, and spending the money wisely.

Short Tunic and a Loooooooooong Cape – Robots Root 31 Oct 2017

Robots Root, 64 oz size!

  • Kind of obvious, but I was stoked to see D’Onofrio officially on board in DD S03, especially given the kind of underwhelming, if classic, Born Again plotline. It gives me at LEAST a Kingpin to enjoy.
  • If Gareth Evans does indeed sign on to Deathstroke, that means if nothing else a kick ass fight film. Which seems appropriate.
  • The full Runaways trailer shows some powers, familiar looks, and at least do far isn’t ruining any major surprises comic fans would know.
  • The new Justice League trailer shows Steppenwolf more fully. I wasn’t going to watch, then I realized I’d be overseas when it comes out so things will be spoiled anyway…
  • Um. I mean, I’d still buy one. I love that stuff. But hey, bonuses I guess.
  • Zachary Levi has been confirmed as playing Captain Marvel, I mean SHAZAM I guess at this point, which I’m enjoying. I like the actor, and I think he can bulk up to where it needs to be, as John Krasinski and Chris Prat did. It will be interesting to see if we get a young Billy Batson, or an older one in keeping with the apparent continuity of the DCEU. My favorite of the fan art that came out early this week is above.
  • I don’t watch Supergirl or any of the CW super shows… but wow… check out the costume for new villain ‘Reign’… that’s realllllly badly envisioned. A chattering skull in a super sigil logo on a black version of Supergirl’s costume, plus a Hot Topic mask? GUH.
  • Paramount has been auctioning off costumes and props from the recent Star Trek film. I haven’t talked mush about ST: Discovery yet, as I’m waiting for my cohorts to watch it so we can discuss on the podcast, but one positive, at least in part, has been the overhaul of the Klingon designs. Seeing these Klingon armors, especially the helms, makes me even happier with the show.
  • Best bike-based Star Wars styled Halloween costume anything EVER.
  • This R/C Batmobile is BAD ASS. I still prefer the Tumbler, but hot damn, rotating turrets (for murderdeathkill DCEU Batman!) 24″ of pure powah.
  • He was answering more broadly about his willingness to return to Marvel for another film, not specifically a Black Widow film, but Taika Waititi noted he’d like to see a funny Black Widow. I don’t doubt he’d pull it off, one of those ‘she’s the straight face with lots of eye rolling and groaning at the incompetence of everyone else’ type projects… but I still just want my urgent spy thriller.
  • Speaking of, Olivia Munn has been cast in Hummingbird, which is, you know, that.
  • And here’s the opposite of Olivia Munn, Mads Mikkelsen in Polar. Also awesome. WANT!
  • I forgot to mention this after retweeting it on Twitter… because thats what the cool kids do… but Preacher has been greenlit for S03, which is great news.
  • Our review and discussion (and befuddlement at trying to map out the plotline after seeing it in the middle of the night) of Blade Runner 2049 is forthcoming on the podcast, but this was interesting: they considered making it a two part 4 hour film. There is a definite divide in the narrative, indeed each half begins with the eye, etc. I’m glad they took it the direction they did, though.
  • This is the stuff of superhero or paranormal or alien film prologues…
  • Finally, here’s a Stranger Things candle that I love highly.

Happy Halloween y’all! Enjoy your syringes and bath salts and Charleston Chews!

More Than Meets the Industrial Designer – Robots Root 9 October 2017

Emerson Tung is an illustrator I’ve been following for years, and I’ve posted his work here before. I was struck by how he casually solves the modern Transformers movie problem: let the tech in the transforming bits be complicated if you need to to make it parse, but leave the body panels and such along, and anachronistic enough that you look at it and think ‘car robot’…

Meanwhile, that Robot’s Root:

  • I’m super down with the new Mondo art book… I love their poster work and this looks to be a nice collection.
  • The New Justice league trailer as a bit of plot in it, which is nice. I’m not sure I’d want to be the one to cover Bowie, but they tried. My buddy Ryan pointed out last night how confusing it is that Aquaman has a good ole boy slash surfer situation going on. I like it. But when he makes me THINK about it, it’s an interesting choice. I think they just let Momoa be Momoa just Momaing about. Here’s an international version with more ‘yee-a-UH!’ in it. Actually, no, less of it. But I like the theme music in the second trailer, and I wonder (optimistically) if it’s real.
  • I’m not convinced on the Mosaic project on HBO. A Choose-Your-Own-Adventure film by Soderbergh… eh. Feels like a video game.
  • You may recall that awesome short, Adam, done on the Unity engine backbone, by Neil Blomkamp? Here’s a sequel.
  • New X-Files S11 trailer has me shrugging. I realize, the last season was so random and disjointed (released in wrong broadcast order etc) and I had sort of forgotten about the hot mess they left it in. Anyway, all the ballyhoo from S10 was basically that their return to creature of the week format was the high point, and the serialized conspiracy eps the lowest. Now, I happen to love the conspiracy stuff… but I can’t imagine they targeted me specifically for S11… so huh.
  • The early reviews of Thor look very promising. Of course, that’s just about whether it will be good, not whether it will do well at the box office. I mean, Thor will. Blade Runner scores extremely high on Rotten Tomatoes and will be tanking (understandably) but I think Thor will have legs. They are very different animals. Speaking of, this is gorgeous.
  • I’m not sure that these photos are indicative of anything (other than that the poster doesn’t know the difference between an arm sleeve and a tattoo sleeve) but I do like the idea that for one reason or another Hawkeye will become Ronin. If that happens.
  • Ridley Scott says the next Alien film will be more about AI action than xenomorphs. I welcome it entirely. “I think the evolution of the Alien himself is nearly over, but what I was trying to do was transcend and move to another story, which would be taken over by A.I.’s. The world that the AI might create as a leader if he finds himself on a new planet. We have actually quite a big layout for the next one.”
  • Gore Verbinski MAY be on board for directing Gambit. That could be good or bad, depending on what you think of the director, and what he thinks of the material, because he’s pretty uneven in my opinion. I was so MEH on this project until I saw the synopsis. Now I want it to succeed.
  • Super bad luck on the Punisher release timing. I mean, the BAD LUCK is the horrible tragedy in Vegas, but I mean, tough time to release this project. Last time I posted about it they were delaying the screeners, but now the whole project may be pushed back. And probably should.
  • I’m a nerd, so I loved this: Hot Toys released a version of Boba Fett from the X-Mas Special. Believe it or not (believe it) I have this on my to-draw queue. HAHAHA. Now the ref material got 1,000x better.
  • If you liked Crank, you may be the target market for Happy on the Sy-Fy channel… I’m not sure where I stand on it. I like that it exists…
  • I wasn’t initially particularly interested in the Phillip K Dick anthology being cooked up. I don’t much like anthologies (though I make them out of necessity)… but having seen the promo, I’m intrigued…
  • Lastly, the Runaways full trailer still smacks of teen soap and doesn’t have the vibe I’m hoping for. EXCEPT. All the word of mouth is positive. So, maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised…

That’s all for today. Just sitting here pounding refresh on my alamo drafthouse page waiting for those Star Wars tickets…

Load “Robot-Kraken” comma 8 comma 1 – PRESS PLAY ON TAPE! 29 Sept 2017

To hell with the Twitch whatever… I’ll take a mini C64, thanks! I mean, I won’t. But I WOULD.

Meanwhile…

’tis Robot’s Root:

  • Michelle Williams has reportedly joined the cast of Venom, opposite Tom Hardy. Say what you will about the garbage level of Sony’s productions, that’s good wattage.
  • Man, if only I had time to play them video games! Red Dead 2!
  • Sneak peeks at Runaways are thoroughly CW style meh. I refuse to abandon hope. But I worry when a teaser image bores me. More pics, showing the different kids…
  • Kind of neat to see how much the new Tomb Raider is pulling from the game.
  • Isle of Dogs is pre-suffering from sort of appropriation backlash which feels pretty beyond the pale to me. Again, I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but Anderson always uses whatever voice actors he likes, in any role. And there are plenty of Japanese voice actors on this project. Reaching…
  • When this kind of thing is still happening in the US, it’s easy to imagine True Detective having traction for more gritty, urban stories. Bring on Mahershala Ali already!
  • It slays me that BB-9E was called ‘BB-H8’ on set. I’ll never not hear that in my inner monologue.
  • Oh look: Nice Guys TV adaptation, but with women! UGH. Actually, I loved the Nice Guys, and I’d love an all female retro buddy cop show. But adaptations…
  • THERES NO PROBLEM IN THE DCEU STOP ASKING.
  • SW: Battlefront II will feature the Emporer’s posthumous kill-em-all plans… I’m intrigued in that alone, let alone the whole game which i will love, buy, and rarely have a chance to play.
  • Skinless Rocket Raccoon. Have fun tonight…
  • What’s this! Snow Crash adapted for Amazon? Now we’re talking…
  • this, wonderful thing, this amazing, wonderful thing, for one lung
  • And now, more desktop imagery for you: retro power station control rooms. AWESOME.

With that, I leave you to your theoretical leisure.

Tactical Combat Hair – Robots Root 31 July 2017

Well, the unfortunately named Zazie Beetz sure looks great as Domino… and this promo image was a clever callback to the first film’s promos… there are a few head shots of her tonight floating around as well. The domino white oval situation is actually kind of interestingly designed, asymmetric…

Meanwhile, I tole you:

Robots Root!

  • I like the carbon fibery one a bit. I mean, I think I like that more than the ‘tactical armor’ they went with, though I do like the film version’s bonus goggles.
  • Internet: X-Men reboots planned! Alien reboots planned! Terminator reboots planned! Me: sob
  • Kind of one of those linkbaity interviews where they asked Hayley Atwell if she’d prefer to be doing movies with marvel as Peggy Carter vs. you know, NOT. And of course she would. As would I. Prefer her, not me. Ugh. It’s late.
  • No narrator for Blade Runner 2049. Praise be, they all said.
  • Mahershala Ali finally just confirmed his True Detective inclusion, thus confirming what I will be doing when it airs.
  • First that, and now this. Yep, we are doomed.
  • Runaways will be bite sized, accessible, and not ignore the MCU. I’m cool with all of that.
  • This whole situation is why massive online gaming exists. It is PEAK NERD and I love it so much.
  • What’s this? Hans [I buy everything he does] Zimmer is taking over the Blade Runner soundtrack? YES PLS.

OK, that’s all for tonight. Tomorrow, very very very likely, a TRDL news item to be announced.

Hey Look Theres Jeff Goldblum – Robots Root 6 June 17

As if the Thor: Ragnarok trailer couldn’t get any better

Lo, tis Robot’s Root for 6 June 2017!

  • Charlie Heaton of Stranger Things up for Cannonball in New Mutants? I’ll take it. Meanwhile, Blu Hunt, a relative unknown, has been cast as Dani Moonstar. On the, uh, surface, she looks good to me. Acting? Ethnicity? Can’t say. Finally, Henry Zaga has been cast as Sunspot. Shrug!
  • Here’s a trailer for Preacher S02 I didn’t watch because blackout. Please, let me make it until 20 June…
  • I’ve seen at least 13 different clickbaity articles about the ‘leaked Punisher poster’… let me save you some time. It’s a skull. Sorted! Now, to hold breath until November…
  • So Millie Bobby Brown auditioned for the role of X-23… that’s interesting. I wish we learned that before recording our latest podcast on the subject. An interesting what if? comparison there…
  • John Wick 3 is GO!
  • Janelle Monae is on board for the Phllip P Dick anthology. That’s intriguing to me, as I love her deal, and I love that she wanted to be involved. I still don’t love anthologies, though.*
  • I don’t know if its true or parody that this ‘Paramount’s Dark Universe’ group shot was a composite (damn potochop!) but now I can’t stop staring at Russell Crowe’s hand. But man I still love most of this pic, especially bad as nails Sofia Boutella. When I first saw this pic last week, I cropped her out as pose reference for an upcoming art. I mean damn.
  • Earthling Cinema kills it, so to speak, once again with a review of Ex Machina. “AKA the Pollack Method”
  • Chris Hemsworth isn’t hurt about being left out of the last few films, right?
  • I’m no fan of Todd McFarlane or Spawn, but I love love love seeing the youthful iterations of later commercial properties. Close to my heart, of course.
  • The new Runaways series has been officially announced. I like Anka, but we’ll see how this new creative team, and direction, works in the context of the high standards of the past.
  • Finally, it sounds like the ST: Bridge Crew immersive VR game has stepped up to the promise of both the VR platform and the Star Trek gaming experience. I’m not in the market for more Playstation gear to languish unused in my living room, but I like what I’m reading.

Back to your work friend friending!

Storm of Toleyous – Robot’s Root 25 May 2017

A trailer for Game of Thrones seems superfluous at this point: everyone will be watching, unless they won’t, and those who won’t won’t be persuaded to watch. However, my personal resolve to not watch this trailer lasted precisely three brand-aware hours. And here’s a breakdown of details I’m not reading.

Lo, Robot’s Root!

  • Wait. WHUT. Barry Pepper forges his own weapons?
  • And there goes Doug Liman for Justlice League Dark…
  • Matt Reeves wants ALL THE VILLAINS. Hoenestly I do think this is the direction the new standalone Batman film should take: trapped in Arkham, with all of your enemies therein, now armed for bear. I’d love to see Joker pitting them all against Batman as he struggles to fight his way out and contain the threat.
  • Black Tom Cassidy could be the main villain in Deadpool2. He’s been cast, at any rate.
  • A Kris Anka illustrated Runaways reboot? I’m interested.
  • Josh Boon describes the New Mutants film as straight-up horror.
  • I know I’m not the only one that first thought (hope springs eternal) that Elizabeth Moss was cast as Typhoid Mary… from DAREDEVIL…
  • These Leibovitz photos of the Last Jedi stuff really fired me up. I love the baroque early 1900s gambling planet business. With space goats! But also Laura Linney has all the color!
  • Everything you wanted picked apart from the latest Homecoming trailer here. And here’s that trailer. But we have a Spanish quiz!
  • Finally, a TMNT pizza cookbook happened.

That’s all for now. Go grab your dragon eggs. It’s only fire.

Stay Classy, Defenders – Robot’s Root 3 May 2017

YASSDEFENDERS … “It’s YOUR scarf” And above, this gif… it’s Danny Rand’s version of Malak from Conan the Destroyer’s “I’m rowing!”

Meanwhile, in space… it’s Robot’s Root:

  • While I will always love the Facehugger plushie, this Xenomorph with classic clear dome (implied) is a new second favorite.
  • There are many things to doubt about the upcoming Pacific Rim sequel… but worse looking mechs wasn’t on my radar… until now.
  • Sweet! B/W Logan on the big screen for one day: May 16. Still no Old Man Sabertooth, but hey, I’m Ok with it.
  • Ridley Scott appears to be shitting all over the Aliens 5 project. Sounds a bit retconny to me; given especially the age of this Director, the promise of like 22 more Aliens films he declared last week, and the troubled reception to Prometheus… all right before Covenant. Hm.
  • Mondo has collaborated with USAopoly’s Project Raygun to produce a THING board game. How dope is THAT.

The Thing™ Infection at Outpost 31 Gameplay

It is the start of the bleak, desolate Antarctic winter when a group of NSF researchers manning the claustrophobic, isolated U.S. Outpost 31 comes into contact with a hostile extraterrestrial lifeform. Bent on assimilating Earth’s native species, this being infiltrates the facility—creating a perfect imitation of one of the Outpost 31 crew. The staff frantically begin a sweep of the base, desperate to purge this alien infection before escaping to warn McMurdo Station that somewhere, out there in the frigid darkness, something horrible is waiting.

In THE THING™ INFECTION AT OUTPOST 31, relive John Carpenter’s sci-fi cult classic as a hidden identity game designed to push you to the edge. Play as one of a dozen characters like helicopter pilot MacReady, mechanic Childs, or station manager Garry. Face sabotage and infection as you investigate the facility—gather gear, battle The Thing, expose any imitations among you, and escape Outpost 31!

Tension mounts and paranoia ensues as you question who you can trust in the ultimate race to save humanity.

  • “These two incandescent idiots…” I’m sold.

OK friends, wax them staches and watch them backs!
